CV Tip for 2019

Hiring Managers can receive hundreds of applications for a vacancy. Bear in mind they are tasked with going through these applications and selecting a manageable number for consideration and interview.

If your application or email is one of several hundred with a CV attached, just how much consideration will it get?

YOUR CV NEEDS TO SELL YOUR SKILLS AT A GLANCE

That’s why the key piece of CV advice for you this year is to keep your CV short and concise.

Give the busy hiring manager what they want to read; relevant information and experience that matches the job you want.

The shorter and more concise it is the better it will be. However, it needs to be carefully edited and crafted, so it sells you at a glance.

You only get one shot at it. If you’re in doubt get advice, but whatever you do, get it right.

The more senior you are the, more focused you need to be when producing a CV. Not only do you need to demonstrate your abilities in a particular discipline but also show management skills above and beyond your functional expertise.

Lastly be sure you have a clear and realistic focus on your career progression. Starting a job search is in a sense starting a journey and like any journey, if you don’t have a destination in mind, you will meander aimlessly.

While your CV must reflect and record your career history, it must also be ‘flavoured’ with where you’re going.
